How to connect a digital TV receiver (DTV) to an older TV.
This article provides instructions on how to install a digital receiver on an older TV using simple steps, converting the digital signal to an analog signal for watching free channels.
Are you using an older TV and can't watch digital channels? Don't worry! This article will guide you on how to install a digital TV receiver (DTV) so your TV can receive free digital channels. Analog TVs (older TVs) cannot automatically receive digital television signals without a supporting device. Therefore, a DTV receiver will help you convert the digital signal to an analog signal, allowing your old TV to still watch clear television. Let's learn how to connect them easily!
Things you need to know when installing a DTV digital receiver.
1. Attach the antenna to the receiver.
First, turn off and unplug the TV. Then, plug the antenna into the “IN” port on the digital TV box.
2. Connect the receiver to the TV.
Use a coaxial cable (round cable) or an RCA cable (cable with red, white, and yellow connectors) to connect the receiver to the TV.
3. Turn on the device and configure it.
Turn on your TV and DTV receiver, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the channel setup process.
Step 1: When do you need a digital TV box?
Use a set-top box if your TV is an old analog model.
If your TV is an older model (without a digital cable port), you will need to install a digital receiver to convert the digital signal into an analog signal that the TV can display.
A set-top box is not needed if the TV is a modern model.
If you're using an HDTV or a TV with "SDTV" written on the front, then the TV already has a built-in digital decoder — no separate set-top box is needed.

Step 2: Turn off and unplug the TV before installation.
Press the Power button on the TV to turn it off. Then, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet or use a surge protector (if applicable) to ensure safety during operation.

Step 3: Remove the antenna from the TV.
Unplug the coaxial cable from the antenna that's plugged into the back of the TV. You don't need to move the antenna , as you'll be plugging it into the digital receiver later.
Note: If you are using an external antenna (e.g., mounted on the roof), the procedure is the same as above.
If your TV doesn't have an antenna , you'll need to buy one (like the "notch" type) to use the digital receiver.

Step 4: Place the digital receiver near the TV.
Place the digital receiver next to the TV , ensuring that the cable can comfortably connect the two devices without being stretched or bent .
The front of the receiver (where the indicator lights are located, and there are no wires) should be oriented in the same direction as the TV screen for easy operation and control.

Step 5: Attach the antenna to the digital receiver.
Take the antenna's coaxial cable and plug it into the "IN" port on the back of the digital receiver.
If the antenna cable has screw-in connectors, make sure you tighten them securely to ensure a stable signal before moving on to the next step.

Step 6: Connect the digital receiver to the TV.
You can connect the receiver to the TV using a coaxial cable or an RCA cable (red, yellow, white) , depending on the type of cable available.
-
Coaxial cable:
Plug one end of the cable into the “OUT” port on the digital receiver, and the other end into the “IN” port on the TV (the same port where you just unplugged the antenna cable). -
RCA cable:
Plug the red, white, and yellow wires into the corresponding colored ports on the back of the receiver. Then, plug the remaining wires into the corresponding ports on the back (or front) of the TV.

Step 7: Plug in the digital receiver.
Using the power cord included with the receiver, plug the receiver into a wall outlet or surge protector (if available).
If the receiver doesn't have a built-in power cord , take the included cord and plug the smaller end into the back of the receiver , then plug the other end into a power outlet.

Step 8: Turn on the digital receiver if needed.
Some digital receivers have an "Off/On" switch on the back or side of the device. If so, flip the switch to the "On" position before proceeding to the next step.

Step 9: Plug in the power cord and turn the TV back on.
Plug the TV's power cord into the electrical outlet, then turn on the TV to prepare for the next step.

Step 10: Switch the TV to the appropriate channel and scan for channels.
-
Most digital receivers will automatically scan for channels when you switch your TV to channel 3 or 4. If this doesn't work, check your receiver's instruction manual for the correct channel.
-
If the receiver has a remote control , insert the batteries, press the power button on the remote to turn on the receiver, and then use the arrow keys to operate the screen.
-
Usually, you just need to press Next a few times following the on-screen instructions until the receiver starts scanning for digital channels.
-
If you encounter any difficulties, please refer to the receiver's user manual for instructions on how to complete the setup process.

Step 11: Allow the digital receiver to automatically scan for channels.
The receiver will automatically search for digital channels that are available in your area. Once the channel scan is complete, you can freely watch and switch between these channels.
