With 4 simple feng shui tips for the bedroom – such as placing the bed in the right position, choosing harmonious colors, keeping the space tidy, and avoiding negative energy – you can easily create a peaceful space, sleep better, and receive positive energy every day.
The bedroom is where we rest after a long day, so the feng shui arrangement of the bedroom is always a topic of interest for many Vietnamese people. When arranged correctly, the space becomes cozy, easier to sleep in, and helps to create a calm and relaxed state of mind. Feng shui isn't complicated—just understanding a few basic principles allows you to adjust your bedroom to ensure a smooth flow of energy and minimize factors that cause fatigue or stress. This article will guide you through simple, practical ways to arrange your bedroom according to feng shui principles and bring a sense of peace every day.
How to apply feng shui to the bedroom.
Position the bed correctly to maintain stability.
-
Choose a bed with a sturdy headboard , symbolizing support and mental stability.
-
Position the bed against a sturdy wall, avoiding placing it too close to the door, to create a sense of security while sleeping.
-
Prioritize a location where you can see the door but are not directly facing it to maintain a harmonious flow of energy.
Keep the space under the bed clear.
-
Don't store things under your bed so that energy can flow freely , helping you sleep soundly and reducing feelings of heaviness.
-
If the room is small and you must store things, only keep blankets, pillows, or lightweight items, avoiding sharp objects or old items that carry negative energy.
Balancing Yin and Yang in bedroom layout
-
Avoid placing the bed completely off to one side or too close to the wall, as this can cause an imbalance of energy.
-
Keep both sides of the bed clear; you can place two bedside tables to create balance and convenience.
-
Prioritize soft colors and warm lighting to enhance the sense of tranquility, creating a more relaxing atmosphere.
Create a positive energy flow around the sleeping area.
-
Keep your bedroom tidy and reduce unnecessary items to minimize the accumulation of negative energy .
-
Regularly open doors or draw curtains to allow natural light into the space, ensuring stable air circulation.
Tip 1: How to position your bed according to feng shui for a good night's sleep.
Step 1: Choose a sturdy headboard to increase stability while sleeping.
Prioritize a sturdy headboard made of good quality materials.
-
Choose a headboard made of solid wood or upholstered , as these two types provide a sense of security, stability, and best support positive feng shui energy.
-
A sturdy headboard provides "support" for your body and mind while you sleep, just like leaning back in a chair after sitting for a long time can reduce fatigue.
-
When you sleep, your body enters a state of energy restoration, so your head always needs firm support to feel protected.
How to deal with a bed that doesn't have a headboard.
-
You can create a faux headboard by attaching a few pieces of wood to the wall directly behind the bed.
-
Prioritize wood panels in neutral colors with a smooth surface, creating a sense of stability and blending seamlessly into the overall bedroom design.
The clear benefits of using a stable headboard.
-
Increases feelings of security while sleeping.
-
It helps to relax the mind more deeply.
-
Supporting the harmonious functioning of feng shui in the bedroom creates a foundation for good sleep quality and positive energy.

Step 2: Choose a mattress with good support to improve sleep.
Prioritize quality mattresses that fit your body.
-
Choose a mattress that provides good spinal support, neither too soft nor too firm, so your body can relax naturally.
-
Try it out before you buy to feel the elasticity, softness, and support. A suitable mattress will help you sleep more soundly and reduce aches and pains after waking up.
Avoid using used mattresses.
-
You shouldn't buy a used mattress because you can't know its origin or the energy it has accumulated from the previous user.
-
A new mattress brings a cleaner, safer, and more stable feel to the bedroom's feng shui.
Why does a good mattress bring positive feng shui?
-
Quality sleep helps the body recover and leaves you feeling more alert the next day.
-
A comfortable sleeping environment contributes to a harmonious energy flow and a sense of peace while resting.

Step 3: Maintain a proper bed height for good energy flow.
Choose a bed of the right height.
-
The bed should be elevated enough from the floor to allow for proper air circulation around your body while you sleep.
-
Avoid using beds that are too low or too close to the floor, as this can cause energy to "stagnate," resulting in a heavy feeling upon waking.
Avoid beds with storage compartments underneath.
-
Beds with drawers or compartments underneath are generally considered bad for bedroom feng shui .
-
When the space under the bed is blocked, the flow of energy cannot move naturally, reducing sleep comfort.
-
In particular, storing old items, papers, rarely used clothes, etc., carries heavy and impure energy that will directly affect sleep.
How to deal with a bed that's too low
-
Bed risers can be used to increase the height of the bed. This is a simple, low-cost method that helps create more space underneath.
-
Ensure the support legs are sturdy, safe, and suitable for the width and weight of the bed.
Benefits of maintaining the correct bed height
-
Improved airflow leads to a more comfortable sleeping experience.
-
Reduce the accumulation of dirt and heavy energy under the bed.
-
Create a harmonious overall bedroom design that supports proper feng shui.

Step 4: Place the bed away from the door to maintain stable energy.
Prioritize the bed position furthest from the door.
-
Position the bed away from the bedroom door , or diagonally to the door , instead of in line with the door.
-
The goal is that when lying in bed you can see the door , but not be directly facing it.
-
This rule applies to all types of doors in a room: bedroom doors, balcony doors, bathroom doors, or closet doors.
Why not place the bed in line with the door?
-
When the bed is aligned with the door, the strong flow of air (chi) will be directed straight at the person sleeping, easily causing them to startle, have restless sleep, or feel uneasy.
-
Positioning the bed away from the door allows energy to flow smoothly , avoiding any "pressure" while you rest.
Benefits of placing the bed away from the door
-
You have better control over the space because you see the door as soon as you open your eyes, creating a sense of control and security.
-
Being away from the door limits noise, light, and unexpected elements that could startle you.
-
This is an important principle in feng shui bedroom arrangement to maintain tranquility and safe energy.
How to determine the best location
-
Stand at the door and observe the entire room.
-
Find the corner of the room furthest from the door, but still offering a view towards the door.
-
Position the bed so that the headboard is against a sturdy wall and the body of the bed is slightly angled away from the door.
-
Make sure no other doors (balcony, bathroom, closet) face directly towards the bed.

Step 5: Secure the wall behind the bed to increase the sense of security.
Always place the bed against a solid wall.
-
Besides a sturdy headboard, you need a solid wall behind it to provide stable support for your body and energy while you sleep.
-
Solid walls can make you feel safer, especially at night when your body enters a state of deep rest.
Avoid placing the bed directly under the window.
-
Sleeping under a window leaves you without protection behind you, causing your personal energy to gradually weaken over time.
-
Light, wind, or outdoor noises can easily startle you, reducing the quality of your sleep.
-
In terms of bedroom feng shui, this position does not provide the necessary support for the spirit.
The benefits of placing your bed against a sturdy wall.
-
It increases feelings of security, especially during deep sleep.
-
It helps stabilize resting energy, preventing it from being dispersed.
-
Overall support for a harmonious bedroom layout leads to better quality sleep.

Step 6: Create balanced energy on both sides of the bed.
Place two bedside tables to maintain balance.
-
Using two bedside tables symmetrically on either side helps create a stable and harmonious sleeping space.
-
If sleeping together, arranging things evenly on both sides helps maintain equality and harmony in the relationship.
-
Choose a compact size for more space and easier portability.
Use matching bedside lamps to enhance harmony.
-
Place two identical bedside lamps on either side of the bed to create soft, consistent lighting.
-
Soft lighting helps to calm the energy in the bedroom, promoting deeper sleep.
Prefer round bedside tables.
-
Round or rounded bedside tables are considered better because they don't create "poisonous arrows" pointing towards the person sleeping.
-
Avoid placing square cabinets with sharp edges, especially near the head of the bed, to limit negative energy from being directed straight at the body.
The benefits of balancing the two sides of the bed.
-
It helps the body and mind maintain a stable state while sleeping.
-
Create a symmetrical, visually pleasing, and comfortable bedroom layout.
-
Enhance the feng shui of your bedroom by ensuring the airflow is evenly distributed on both sides.

Step 7: Keep the bed away from the TV, desk, and other distractions.
Limit the use of devices and objects that distract you.
-
Ideally, bedrooms should be for rest, so keep TVs and desks out of the room if possible.
-
If space is limited and you must place these items in the room, position them as far away from the bed as possible so as not to disrupt the relaxing energy around the sleeping area.
Cover up the TV or desk to reduce energy impact.
-
Cover the TV with a thin towel, a light blanket , or place it in a cupboard with doors to prevent the device from "disrupting" your resting space.
-
A Japanese-style folding screen can be used to separate the work area from the bed, creating a clear sense of separation.
-
If the TV is wall-mounted, using artwork to cover it is a simple way to soften the space.
Why should you keep your distance from these devices?
-
TVs, desks, and work-related items easily carry stressful energy, making it difficult for the mind to relax.
-
Maintaining distance helps the bed area retain a gentle energy, supporting deeper sleep.
-
This is an important principle in bedroom feng shui arrangement , helping you maintain balance and separation between rest and work.
The best way to optimize space in a small area.
-
Place the TV or desk in the corner of the room furthest from the bed.
-
Use a cover or cabinet to "hide" the device when not in use.
-
Keep the area around the bed clean and avoid placing electronic devices near the headboard.

Tip 2: Bedroom Feng Shui: Avoiding Negative Energy
Step 1: Avoid placing mirrors directly facing the bed to protect your sleep.
Do not place a mirror opposite the bed.
-
A mirror facing directly towards the bed is considered to disrupt energy, easily causing you to be startled or have restless sleep.
-
For wardrobe doors with mirrors or fixed mirrors, cover them with a light towel or cloth while sleeping to reduce the impact.
Limit the number of mirrors in the bedroom.
-
Mirrors are objects that carry strong energy, making them unsuitable for spaces that require tranquility, such as bedrooms.
-
If you're sleeping together, placing a mirror in the room is also not recommended as it can easily create a feeling of instability in the relationship.
Here's how to arrange the mirror if you still want to use it.
-
Place the mirror inside the wardrobe door , only opening it when needed.
-
Avoid any location that might reflect the bed, even partially.
-
Prioritize small, simply shaped mirrors, and avoid placing them directly near the head of the bed.
The benefits of avoiding mirrors reflecting onto the bed.
-
Increase stillness, helping the mind to relax before sleep.
-
Reduce feelings of anxiety when waking up in the middle of the night.
-
Maintaining stable energy in the bedroom supports more harmonious feng shui .

Step 2: Avoid placing the bed directly under a beam to prevent energy pressure.
Do not place the bed under a ceiling beam.
-
A ceiling beam can create a heavy, oppressive feeling, like pressure is weighing you down while you sleep.
-
In terms of bedroom feng shui, this location is prone to causing insomnia, restless sleep, or feelings of unease when lying down.
What to do if you can't change the bed's position.
-
Cover the overhead beam with a soft cloth to lessen the feeling of weight from above.
-
Hang two bamboo flutes from a beam, with the ends pointing downwards. This is a traditional way to reduce negative energy concentrated around the bed.
-
The goal is to create a feeling of security, not being "threatened" while sleeping under pressure from the ceiling.
Benefits of avoiding beds under beams
-
It helps you relax your body easily and avoid feeling suffocated while sleeping.
-
Create a calm, stable space, in line with the principles of feng shui for bedroom arrangement .
-
It promotes deeper sleep and a greater sense of security every time you rest.

Step 3: Avoid placing waterfalls, fish tanks, or water features in the bedroom.
Avoid using water elements in the bedroom.
-
Avoid placing fish tanks, mini waterfalls, misting systems , or any decorative items with water elements in the room.
-
Avoid hanging paintings of streams, rivers, seas, or rain on bedroom walls because the energy of water is considered to easily lead to feelings of instability, loss of wealth, or misfortune.
-
Water possesses dynamic energy, making it unsuitable for spaces requiring tranquility, such as bedrooms.
Why you should avoid water elements in bedroom feng shui.
-
Water activates a strong, dynamic energy, which can easily make it difficult for the mind to relax and cause insomnia.
-
In terms of feng shui, water in the bedroom can create a feeling of coldness and instability, and is not conducive to financial luck.
-
For a couple's bedroom, water-themed paintings are also not recommended as they reduce the warmth of the space.
The solution if you love art related to water.
-
Consider placing a fish tank, water feature, or mini waterfall in the bathroom , living room, or common area.
-
These areas are more suitable for displaying water elements without affecting sleep or personal energy.
Benefits of avoiding water in the bedroom
-
The sleeping environment becomes quieter, warmer, and more stable.
-
The energy in the bedroom is kept in a static state – suitable for the purpose of rest.
-
Feng shui principles for the bedroom help create a harmonious, calming atmosphere that benefits both mental well-being and financial fortune.

Step 4: Avoid placing plants or flowers in the bedroom to maintain tranquility.
Limit plants and flowers in the bedroom.
-
Plants carry a lot of positive (yang) energy, which is strong and continuous, making them unsuitable for spaces that require tranquility, such as bedrooms.
-
Having plants in a room can make it difficult to relax, lead to restless sleep, or cause energy to be easily scattered.
If you absolutely must place a plant in the room...
-
Only install it if there is absolutely no other space in the house.
-
Arrange the plants out of sight when you're lying in bed to minimize the impact.
-
Prioritize small, low-spreading plants; avoid large plants or climbing plants in the bedroom.
Why you should keep plants outside the bedroom
-
It helps maintain a calm environment , suitable for rest.
-
Avoid having plants "compete" for energy or create a feeling of excessive activity when you need to relax.
-
It helps balance yin and yang in the bedroom according to the principles of feng shui bedroom arrangement .
The benefits of not having plants in the bedroom.
-
A peaceful sleeping environment makes it easier to relax the mind.
-
The energy in the room remains stable, without being overstimulated.
-
Create the ideal environment for you to recover physically and mentally after a long day.

Step 5: Keep the space around the bed clear to allow for good energy flow.
Avoid placing the bed against one wall.
-
When one side of the bed is pressed against the wall, energy becomes "trapped," making it difficult for limbs to flow evenly in both directions.
-
If sleeping together, the person on the inside will feel restricted, uncomfortable, and experience an imbalance in the relationship.
-
The bed should have walkways on both sides to create a sense of freedom, comfort, and balance of yin and yang in the bedroom.
Don't leave clutter around the bed.
-
Clutter can create blockages, easily leading to feelings of anxiety, difficulty sleeping, or a heavy mind.
-
Keep the areas around the headboard, sides, and under the bed tidy and clean , avoiding the accumulation of unnecessary items.
-
Clean regularly to maintain light and airy energy.
Reduce the number of accessories on the bed.
-
Limit the number of decorative pillows, throws, or unnecessary items on the bed.

Step 6: Limit TV in the bedroom to maintain calm energy and quality sleep.
It's best to remove the TV from the bedroom.
-
Televisions emit electromagnetic fields and blue light, which can easily stimulate the brain, causing difficulty falling asleep or poor sleep quality.
-
In terms of bedroom feng shui, a TV is considered to bring dynamic energy, which is the opposite of the tranquility needed in a resting space.
-
For couples, TV can be a distraction, disrupting connection and making the bedroom feel less private and intimate.
If you absolutely must keep a TV in the bedroom
-
Cover the TV with a thin towel after use to prevent energy from reflecting onto the bed.
-
Hide the TV in a cabinet when not in use, especially a cabinet with doors that close tightly.
-
If the TV is placed on a shelf, choose a shelf with doors or locks to completely conceal the device when you go to sleep.
-
The goal is to make the TV "disappear from view," minimizing the impact of dynamic energy in the sleeping space.
Benefits of limiting TV in the bedroom
-
It helps the mind relax and quickly enter a state of rest.
-
Enhance the connection and warmth in the bedroom, especially when sleeping together.
-
Create a tranquil environment – in keeping with the principles of feng shui bedroom arrangement – to maintain gentle and stable energy.

Step 7: Limit the number of books in the bedroom to maintain a relaxing atmosphere.
You shouldn't keep too many books in the bedroom.
-
Books possess a powerful energy for activity and thinking, easily keeping your mind "busy" even when you want to rest.
-
When a bedroom is cluttered with too many books, the space resembles a workspace, diminishing the tranquility necessary for sleep.
-
The energy of books—especially academic books and work materials—can create feelings of pressure or stress.
Keep a few books on hand if you read before bed.
-
You can keep one or two books right by your bedside if you have a habit of reading to help you fall asleep.
-
Prioritize lighthearted books; avoid books that stimulate the mind or are highly academic.
Arrange the rest elsewhere.
-
Move books to the study, living room, or a bookshelf outside the bedroom to create a clear boundary between rest and intellectual activity.
-
If you must keep books in your bedroom, store them in a cupboard with doors to avoid clutter and reduce dynamic energy.

-
This location is subject to intense movement, making it unsuitable for a resting area that requires tranquility and stability.
What to do if you can't change the bed's position.
-
Using soft, light-colored curtains helps reduce the impact of airflow from the windows.
-
Double-layered curtains (thick curtains and sheer curtains) are recommended to block strong sunlight while still allowing for ventilation during the day.
-
Make sure windows are closed or shaded when you're sleeping.

-
Avoid cluttering one side of the room with all your belongings, as this can easily create an imbalance of energy.

-
Clothes that are still in good condition can be given away to relatives and friends or donated , which is both a way to tidy up your room and a meaningful gesture.
Why you should throw away old clothes according to feng shui.
-
Even though you can't see them, old clothes still take up space and carry stagnant energy.
-
Holding onto too many unused items can create a sense of burden and hinder you from embracing new opportunities.
-
The bedroom is a place for rest, so everything inside needs to be tidy to allow for a smooth flow of energy.
How to declutter your closet effectively

-
Hanging too many photos of family, friends, or acquaintances in the bedroom can easily create a feeling of being "watched," making it difficult for the mind to completely relax.
-
Bedrooms are private spaces that require tranquility; the more pictures there are, the easier it is to create a feeling of "crowding," losing the inherent serenity.
Only keep a few truly meaningful photos.
-
You can display one or two photos with high sentimental value, but choose a location to hang them so that they don't face directly towards the bed .
-

-
From there, you can optimize the bed's position, choose colors, and arrange it in a way that is more suitable for your birth element.

Hang objects that move gently to activate active limbs.
-
A gently moving mobile or a soft wind chime placed away from the bed can help calm the atmosphere and create balance in the room.
